Invitation to Apply
3.24.2017 Update: Invitations to apply to the Goodnight Scholars Program’s Transfer Class of 2019 have been sent. Please check your primary email address. Best of luck to those invited to apply!
By March 17, 2017, the Goodnight Scholars Program will issue approximately 100 invitations to prospective NC State transfer students who have applied for fall 2017 admission. This invitation gives each student access to the Goodnight Scholars Program online transfer application. The invitation is sent to the email address listed on the student’s general NC State application, which is accessible via Pack ASSIST.
To receive an invitation to apply as a transfer student, a student must:
- Submit his or her general NC State application by February 15, 2017.
- Select a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or STEM education major at NC State.
- Enroll as a full-time student at NC State.
- Be a North Carolina resident.
- Submit his or her Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2017.
- Have an adjusted gross income (AGI) up to $100,000 and demonstrated financial need, which will be confirmed by the FAFSA.
- Obtain an associate degree (AA, AS, or AE) from a North Carolina community college under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement by fall 2017.
- Demonstrate a history of outstanding academic performance.
Additional criteria may be used to address critical needs in STEM and STEM education fields, and encourage diversity and inclusion per the University’s strategic plan.
Prospective NC State transfer students who have applied for fall 2017 admission and have unique academic and/or financial circumstances that they feel may cause them to be overlooked for an invitation to apply to our Program, may nominate themselves for consideration by completing the self-nomination form. The self-nomination form has closed and will re-open in February 2018. Filling out the self-nomination form does not guarantee an invitation to apply to the Goodnight Scholars Program.
The Goodnight Scholars Program Application
Once the student receives the Goodnight Scholars Program application, he or she will be required to answer a series of questions pertaining to his or her candidacy. Questions will focus on the student’s academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, and understanding of the role STEM fields play in addressing key societal and global issues. The application will also contain a section for the student to self-report unusual or unique financial circumstances that won’t be reflected on the FAFSA. Applications will be due in late-March 2017. Applications are reviewed by a committee of NC State faculty, staff, alumni, and campus partners.
The Goodnight Scholars Program Virtual Interview
In early April 2017, the review committee and the Goodnight Scholars Program Professional Staff will select the top 25 transfer candidates as finalists to participate in a virtual interview. Please note: A virtual interview between April 24 through April 26, 2017 is mandatory for finalists who wish to be considered for the Program.
